Kazakhstan hosted its first-ever pavilion in the Village International at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Visitors to the pavilion were presented with a catalogue of Kazakh film companies. Analysts at Nevafilm Research compiled an introductory article especially for this publication on the development of Kazakhstan’s film industry over the course of 2016. Nevafilm Research has been studying the Kazakh film market since 2014. Its soon-to-be-published third report will reveal the main trends in the development of the market in 2015–2016 and offer forecasts for 2017–2019.

It is our hope that this collaborative experience will strengthen ties of friendship and promote the future development of Kazakh cinema.
